Commissioned in November 2021, Rogiérs covered "Higher Ground" Stevie Wonder for the launch of the Reimagine Religious Freedom Mobile Institute. His recording pays homage to the 2020 "Year of Reckoning" and documents social justice protests, activism and the critical work of interfaith alliances fighting class hierarchies and injustices worldwide.

"Higher Ground" features percussionist and drummer Fernando Garcia (IG: FernandoGarciaMusic), a native of Puerto Rico, collaborative partner and former classmate. Garcia's ritual drum pattern (La Bomba) grounds the song in West African musical, social and religious identity as both a reminder of our rich cultural inheritance and the underlying source of racial contempt in the US and abroad. Rogiérs's vocals and arrangement updates the original rendition with deference, warm inflection and a soaring vocal rich with nuance, subtlety and respect for the Stevie's recording.
